Paul Maravelas In-Store with "The History of Big Island"
Join us on Saturday, December 16 at 1PM as we welcome Paul Maravelas, the author of "The History of Big Island". Paul will sign copies of the book as he chats with you and your friends. Paul's book is a masterwork on the history of Big Island, with a discussion of the history of Lake Minnetonka relating to its prehistoric people, the Dakota people, and the landscape.
"The History of Big Island" contains interesting and expertly produced photographs, maps, and other graphic information to complement a beautifully written narrative.
Paul moved with his family to Tonka Bay when he was 12. He spent many idle hours on the lake. In 1979 he married Joni Scheftel, whose family lived year-round on Big Island. The Scheftel house, now a summer cottage, has been owned by the family for fifty years. Maravelas studied at the University of Minnesota, where he received his B.A. and M.A. in history. He retired in 2023 after a career in various Minnesota museums. He lectures occasionally on Lake Minnetonka history.
